"Chinese tallow tree is cultivated for its seeds as a source of

vegetable tallow, a drying oil and protein food, and as an  ornamental. Fruits yield two types of fats: outer covering of seeds  contain a solid fat with low iodine value, known as Chinese Vegetable Tallow; kernels produce a drying oil with high iodine value, called Stillingia Oil.

Tallow is used for manufacturing candles, a layer of  wax being placed over the tallow body to prevent too rapid burning;  has excellent burning quality, and gives an inodorous clear bright  flame; also used for making soap, cloth dressing and fuel."

Jatropha curcas

Jatropha curcas - 'physic nut' - oil seed producing shrub found around the world.

Jatropha species exist in India, Africa, North America in Florida and along the Mexican border area down into Mexico and Central America. Jatropha oil is non edible, grows on marginal land, does not compete with food crops, does not require extensive cultivation,  fertilization and irrigation.  After oil pressing there is a residual nitrogen rich presscake for a secondary market and other byproducts.

The raw oil is suitable as lamp fuel and could be used as biodiesel feedstock and also as SVO (straight vegetable oil) in engines the same way as good quality rapeseed  oil.

Jatropha is an important oil seed shrub - a very important energy source for developing countries.  Jatropha may become one of the most important oil feedstock sources for biodiesel production in the coming years in many parts of the world - Africa, India and the U.S.

Jatropha oil to seed ratio - oil production per plant .

After the shrub is established - in 18 months or so you could expect - with 2500 Jatropha plants per hectare that the oil yield would equal approximately 9085 liters per year or - 3.6 liters of oil per Jatropha bush per year. In U.S. gallons - At about 1000 plants per acre (about 1 plant per 2  sqyd. or so - you'd get 1000 gallons of oil per year.  1 gallon of oil per shrub per year.  You would also have the 'presscake' (seed meal) for 'green manure' nitrogen bearing fertilizer.

The numbers above are based on mid range crop yield and may be subject to error.
